Ekho Collective is a group of artists, designers and technology professionals, who specialise in immersive art. Ekho Collective’s members are Minja Axelsson, Heikki Heiskanen, Essi Huotari, Olli Kilpi, Joonas Nissinen, Tuomas Norvio, Saara-Henriikka Mäkinen and Iina Taijonlahti. In their work the collective combines different mediums of art with AI based technology.
Ekho Collective’s concept was chosen as the winner in the international Opera Beyond competition last spring. The interactive work Laila will premiere at the Finnish National Opera and Ballet in June 2020, with a preview in the Opera Beyond Conference. Laila is created by composer Esa-Pekka Salonen, dramaturg Paula Vesala and Ekho Collective in collaboration with the Finnish National Opera and Ballet.
The immersive piece reflects on fears and dreams related to the development of technology and artificial intelligence. Laila invites the audience to join her in creating her world.
After its performances at the Finnish National Opera in June 2020, Laila will embark on an international tour.
The conference audience will get to hear a case study on Laila, as Ekho Collective opens their creative process.
